School boy run over by bus
PASIGHAT, Dec 04: In yet another bizarre incident of road accident, a school boy named Sanu Kumar, son of Pancha Shah was crushed to death by a speeding APST bus today afternoon at Sawmill area near Central Jail here. Sanu Kumar was a class VI student of Govt. ME Lal Bahadur Shastri School.

Schools inspected amidst teachers’ pen down strike
AALO, Dec 04: West Siang DDSE Tomi Doke Lendo inspected 16 Govt. Primary, Middle, and Secondary schools located in the periphery of Aalo town and found all the SSA teachers of those school doing their duties properly. Instead some regular teachers of Jomlo Farm Primary School were absent from duties for the last many days.
Some Schools of Aalo were found closed after 12 noon. All the teachers have been advised to work sincerely as Govt has appointed High Power Committee to look into the demand for regularization of SSA teachers.
Meanwhile, the DDSE has issued circular to all BEO’s/BRCs/CRCs to submit reports of absentee teachers in time so that the ‘No Work, No Pay’ can be implemented without delay.
The DDSE visited various schools at Eyi, Logum Jini, Biru, Jomlo Farm, Pangkeng, Jomlo Bari, Jomlo Mongku, Penssing, Hissam, Aalo Bazar, Dego, Hiker Gumin, Gumin Nagar, Pakam, Rigo, and P.I.Colony.

Workshop for small tea growers
ITANAGAR, Dec 04: One day workshop on risk mitigation strategies for Small Tea Growers was conducted by Indian Institute of Plant Management (IIPM), Jorhat and Confederation of Indian Small Tea Associaiton (CISTA) at Bordumsa today.
The workshop was attended by 70 small tea growers of Lekang, Bordumsa and Kharsang with full enthusiasm.
While addressing the participants, Bordumsa ADC Kento Riba expressed his gratitude to IIPM Jorhat and CISTA for organizing such useful workshop at Bordumsa and appealed the participants to reap the benefit of the workshop in enhancing their skill in tea cultivation.

Govt urged to strictly follow NIT procedure
ITANAGAR, Dec 04: Claiming that many departmental works and supply order were carried out without conducting notice inviting tender (NIT), All Arunachal Youth Association (AAYA) today in its representation to Chief Secretary urged the government to strictly follow the NIT procedure to ensure effective and quality works. It also claimed that despite huge financial assistance sanctioned by the Central Govt under various schemes/ projects, none of the departments invite tender for competitive bidding for the implementation of the projects. Army recruitment rally in Tezu
TEZU, Dec 04: The Army Recruitment Rally for Soldier (General Duty) started at Jubilee Ground here yesterday.
Over 1000 youths from Lohit, Anjaw, Lower Dibang Valley, Dibang Valley, East Siang and Upper Siang districts turned up for the rally which was flagged off by Brigadier Ranvijay Singh, Deputy Director General Recruiting (North East States).

Mystery surrounds death of young student at Pasighat, police clueless

ITANAGAR, Dec 04: The mystery behind death of a college student Nani Tama whose body was found buried under sand on the bank of river Siang, at Pasighat has left everyone baffled. Late Tama, aged 19, was a student of Union Christian College, Shillong and a native of Ziro town. He was on a shot vacation to Pasighat to meet his elder brother who works as engineer with PWD highway division there.
The death has left many question unanswered as Tama was new to Pasighat town and as per family source he had no personal enmity with anyone. His elder brother had to leave for hometown Ziro on 26th of November for some family work and had left him in the company of servant.
On 27th November, late Tama informed servant that he is going to market and accordingly left for the market. However, he never returned home. Four days later on 1st December his body was found buried under sand near Raneghat Bridge on the bank of river Siang. A murder case has been registered at Pasighat Police Station (case no. 101/2012 under sec. 302 & 201 of IPC).

Demand for an independent assembly secretariat in Arunachal Pradesh
ITANAGAR, Dec 04: The demand for an independent assembly secretariat surfaced in Arunachal Pradesh today with Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong pleading the state government to execute the ‘Constitutional Scheme’ in accordance with Article 187 of the Constitution.
“If we adhere to the constitutional scheme, the government departments will no more be burdened with the work relating to the assembly secretariat,” Lowangdong said during an interactive meet with legislators and officials on Independence of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Secretariat at the assembly premises today.
He said, the assembly secretariat if provided independence would be exclusively responsible for its activities to the comptroller and auditor general of India and the courts. Moreover, the speaker and his officers would be able to perform their functions with more speed and efficiency, he added.
“The ignominy caused to the office of the speaker by scrutiny done by junior officers in government departments or ministers concurring and approving his proposals will be erased and the Constitution and its ideal will stand complied with,” he pointed out.
The speaker informed that in order to extricate the assembly secretariat from the current morass of constitutional defeat, he was intending to initiate few steps including, framing of recruitment and conditions of service rules, strict enforcement of Rule 172 (3) of the Rules of Procedures, office memorandum laying down procedures, establishment of a separate pay and accounts office in the assembly and to constitute an empowered committee to effectively pursue the goal with deputy speaker Jomde Kena as its chairman.

AASSATA reacts strongly to Govt statement
ITANAGAR, Dec 04: All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers Association (AASSATA) today strongly reacted to the warning of the Govt to impose “No work no pay’ policy” if the SSA teachers do not call off its strike.
“As an intellectual organization of the state we are deeply hurt by such threatening statement without any reasonable ground when we are launching a democratic movement in a civilized way in favour of our demand to fulfill the assurance for one go regularization of 2003 batch SSA teachers,” said AASSATA in a release.

ITANAGAR, Dec 04: No education will be complete without knowledge of sports and games, said Minister for Finance, PWD and Planning.
Inaugurating the second Samdrishti Utsav 2012at Boum Kakir Mission School, Midpu yesterday, Mein said sports help a child to be friendly, healthy and physically fit.
Mein advised the students to inculcate in them the philosophy of ‘Samdrishti’ which means all are equal. This will help you to become a balanced person in life, he said. He asked the students to strictly maintain discipline and try to excel in their chosen field of activity through hard work. Talom Rukbo Indigenous Youth Festival 2012 concludes
DAPORIJO, Dec 04: The 4th Talom Rukbo State Level Indigenous Youth Festival 2012 concluded successfully here yesterday with resolve to protect, promote and nourish indigenous faith and culture of the state.
The festival saw the participation of about 2500 delegates from all the 17 districts, who actively took part in various events, like traditional folk dances, folk songs, indigenous musical instruments competitions, traditional sports competitions etc.
Dibang Valley district bagged the Tage Dibu Cultural Trophy while the trophy for the ‘Most Disciplined Team’ was won jointly by Anjaw and Loht districts. The titles for Mr and Miss IFCSAP went to Sago Boje and Moni Ado, both from West Siang district. Upper Subansiri bagged highest number of medals in sports.
The District Health Society also organised a baby show competition during the festival.

Villagers repair Gagur Nalla, restore water supply

The DC cum Chairman said the Government of India through Microfinance Vision targets the women folks to make them self sufficient and economically independent. And, since the State Government has set a target of forming 50,000 SHGs, it is our responsibility to increase the number of SHGs in our district, he said.
To achieve the objective of the Vision as well as the set target, he asked the nodal department (ICDS) and its nodal officers to work towards the goal.
Narrating some success stories of SHGs in Mahadevpur and Namsai, he encouraged the SHGs to take up piggery, poultry, candle making or any other income generating activities for self reliance. He suggested for selecting the right kind of activity and marketing of their produces before forming a Group.
The DC said that success of this Vision depends upon the coordinated efforts of public leaders and the concern officers. He advised the CDPOs to include public leaders of the concern areas for effective conduct of the program.
After discussing some practical problems, like opening of bank accounts etc, the DC suggested that CDPOs should be included in District Level Consultative Meeting of Lead Bank and assured that he will write a letter to the bank to open a counter in a week for the SHGs. He also assured infrastructural assistance, if required.
There are 105 SHGs in total in Lohit district under Microfinance Vision. The DC appreciated the department for its remarkable achievement.

The celebration of 30 years of APC started on the eve of National Press Day on 16th
November 2012 and concluded on 3rd December 2012 at Banquet Hall, Itanagar. As a
part of celebrations, various important events like debate and photography competitions
and photo exhibition on history of both print and electronic media in Arunachal were
organized and media district outreach programme was successfully conducted by young
journalists of the state headed by Taba Ajum, President Arunachal Press Club (APC)
and Azing Pertin, APC Vice-
Seeing their zeal, enthusiastic and dedication, I can now proudly foresee a new wave of journalism is coming up to awake and promote the state towards development in real sense. I wish everyone who are in the helm of affairs should at least try to maintain transparency so that everything could be reaching to common people through media in transparent manner and this way each department’s nodal officer/ PIOs will have less work load in RTI matters.
Like every year on National Press Day celebration, this year too CCRD Naharlagun headed by Moji Riba, who is also Assistant Professor, RGU, collaborated in the celebration of 30 years of Arunachal Press Club with APC and APUWJ by organizing debate competition, arranging photo exhibition on history of media in Arunachal Pradesh, also conducting photography competition which was very successful. I owe my sincere gratitude to him and his team members.
The 30 years long journey of Arunachal Press Club from 1982 onwards has not being
done by any single person. It is a collective effort which enables a non-

Several journalists who joined us and later took exit after having been better option for their career also contributed in the growth of journalism of this state. The return of senior journalist like A Bengia in this profession after a couple of years is quite encouraging for the Press fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh particularly to young journalists.
As per as my observation, there has been many sweet and sour times during the 30 years of long journey. However, each journalist puts their best at different point of time in upholding, somehow, the flag of journalism flying high in the state. During the course of time a new team of young journalist have entered into the scene which makes me to anticipate more better time than our older days for Arunachal state in journalism point of view and I wish them all the best.
Not only this present team will be on the dock but many more young journalists are already in queue to join this profession. Who knows ! Persons who vandalized media houses and physically assaulted media persons may one or other day will come to know that even their daughters and sons are also joining this challenging profession. Only then, they will come to know the importance of journalism for larger interest of the state and its people because no one can underestimate the power of time.
The darkest day of 30 years long journey of Arunachal Press Club is 15th July 2012. On this day Tongam Rina, Associate Editor of Arunachal Times, was shot at by unidentified miscreant from a blank range which shook entire state and its people, particularly the media people in this state.

The happiest occasion ever I observe is the celebration of 30 years completion of Arunachal Press Club with effect from 16th Nov to 3rd Dec 2012, which has sent a louder message on role of media to the state and its people. It has been organized by young journalists of this state, some of them are just entered in this profession. I once again congratulate Taba Ajum and Azing Pertin and their team members for their month long tireless efforts.
Most encouraging words, ever I heard, have been spoken to media persons on eve of National press day celebration on 16th Nov 2012 by Nabam Tuki Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh at Banquet hall, Itanagar are as follows “When the going gets tough, the tough gets going“. He said journalist are like soldier and they must be tough and tough times should toughen them more and asked them to be more vigorous, energetic and determined.
Equally, the incidents of vandalism and attack on media people in the state seems “going gets tough.” Here his Govt should ensure “the tough gets going fairly to deal the persons responsible for vandalism and attacking, we media fraternity would like to say Govt is like a protector and chief minister must be tough and tough times should be toughen him more. We urge him to be more rigorous, energetic and determined.

Some 36,000 people displaced by sectarian violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine state will benefit from an additional $5.3 million in assistance provided by the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
